Carnelian
Carnelian is a member of the chalcedony family. Carnelian, also known as carneol or cornelian, ranges in colour from light pink to reddish-brown. It comes from Brazil, India, Madagascar and Uruguay. It tends to be translucent, and has a hardness of 6.5-7. Its name derives from the Latin word "cornum", the red berry of the cornel-tree. In Egypt, the red colour of carnelian was a symbol for life. It adorned Tutankhamun's funeral pectoral. It was an ornamental stone in every civilisation. A stone of strength, energy and vitality, it stimulates blood circulation. It helps with depression and digestive problems, relieves throat problems and inflammation. Carnelian is the stone that brings serenity.
